Locations, Honors, and IPC--Oh, MY!

This is has been a wonderful, amazing, and crazy week at Firelight for our homeschooling families! Our schedule and registration is now open!! Have you registered, yet?

  1. Our central location host, Highland Village Church of Christ, began the first steps for remodeling our Chemistry classroom so it will be compliant with Texas Department of Safety regulations for science classes.
  2. Then we gained approval to offer Stanford Testing for the first week of May.
  3. Next we received notice granting our Honor Society Charter that will be open to all secondary students including middle school.
  4. AND now, we just reached an agreement for our new north Austin location---AUSTIN SPORTS CENTER of Cedar Park! We are excited about this new adventure and location! It's right next door to the Austin Science museum, Nitro Swim, and the Art + Academy! Since we are using their classroom space--that leaves their amazing gym open for them to offer specialized homeschool only athletic classes! Between the huge outdoor space at our Central location and a Science Museum neighbor at our North location--our science teachers are really planning some deep and creative lessons!!!
  5. We also are welcoming on our team another outstanding science teacher--Kendra Flenniken! She will teaching a pre-AP IPC (Integrated Physics and Chemistry) for older middle school students to help prepare students for the rigors of high school Chemistry and Physics.

Upcoming for the 2017-2018 Year

Just as seasons change, so is Firelight!  We are expanding to North Austin!  Our exact location should be announce by the end of February!

Ben Harnden, our Biology guy, will be stepping away.  He is the primary homeschool teacher in his family, so next year he will be focus more of his time with his family and their school, Austin's Children's Garden.  We have dearly loved his passion for all things living, his passion for getting students to think, and his passion for homeschooling.  We will still continue to support and encourage him and his family.  As a gifted Biology teacher, he is an asset to the homeschooling community!

We  are extremely excited to announce Ben's Harnden's replacement: Dr. Beverly Finklea!  Her previous experience with the University of Texas at Austin has strengthened and encouraged us in our desire to  build students who think, as well as in our core educational philosophies-- "Awakening  Joy, Creativity, and Curiosity."

Back To School Technology

Can you believe that school will be starting SOON?

In addition to using Schoology, we will be using REMIND for school wide texts  sent directly to your cell. We will be using this service for school wide announcements such as potential rainy days or sudden emergencies.

Students need to sign up for a few things prior to the start of school:
